About us

Who We Are

Founded in 1981, York City Gymnastics Foundation has been at the heart of the York community for over 40 years.

As a registered charity, York City Gymnastics Foundation exists to make gymnastics accessible to everyone.

Our Mission

To provide gymnastics to everybody at any age, beginners through to elite

We aim to give everyone, of any age and ability, the opportunity to fulfil their potential in gymnastics. Through high-quality facilities, excellent equipment, and inclusive programmes, we provide opportunities for children and young people across the region to thrive in the sport.

Gymnastics for all

We are committed to making gymnastics accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background, or ability.

From First Steps to Elite

We support participation at every level — from beginners to athletes training and competing at elite level.

A Clear Pathway to Progress

We provide a positive and structured development pathway that helps gymnasts grow steadily and confidently over time.

Building Skills for Life

Through gymnastics, we create opportunities for young people to develop confidence, resilience, discipline, and physical skill — both inside and outside the gym.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign my child up?

Use this link here to sign your child up. Some classes will be full so if you are interested in that class you will need to join the waiting list.

What should my child wear to their sessions?

A leotard isn’t compulsory; if your child does not own one then they can attend the session wearing comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict their movement. Shorts or leggings and a tucked in t-shirt are suitable for all general classes. For trampolining, your child will also need to wear socks.

Crop tops and hooded tops are not allowed. Hair should be tied back and all jewellery removed (or taped if removal is not possible)

Does my child need insurance?

Yes, you will need to purchase a British Gymnastics membership for your child to be able to attend a regular class and be covered by insurance. For gymnasts in any of our recreational classes, a Community Membership is required. For those competing your coach will advise you on the most suitable membership. For our drop in sessions, no British Gymnastics membership is required.

If my child misses a session, are there "make up" sessions?

No, we don’t offer make up sessions or refunds if your child misses their class. If your child will be unable to attend over a long period due to serious illness or injury then please contact us on office@ycgf.org.uk
